Indiana certifies EMTs through the Department of Homeland Security (IDHS), with renewals processed in the Acadis portal. Certification runs on a 2-year cycle, and providers may recertify either by maintaining NREMT or by meeting Indiana's state CE requirements. Recent rules added mandatory TIM (traffic-incident-management) and mental-health/wellness training.

The NREMT EMT cognitive exam is a computer-adaptive test (CAT) with 70–120 questions. The exam adapts based on your performance — you must demonstrate entry-level competency across all content areas including airway management, cardiology, trauma, medical emergencies, and EMS operations. The exam is administered at Pearson VUE test centers nationwide and costs $70 per attempt.
How to Get Your EMT Certification in Indiana
