What is the MBLEx exam?
The MBLEx (Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination) is administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) and is accepted as the licensing exam in most U.S. states. The exam is 100 questions with a 110-minute time limit. It covers kinesiology, anatomy, pathology, massage techniques, client assessment, and professional ethics.
What is the MBLEx pass rate?
The MBLEx first-attempt national pass rate is approximately 73%. Most failures occur on the anatomy & physiology, pathology, and kinesiology sections. Candidates who complete a structured practice question program before their exam have significantly higher pass rates.
How long should I study for the MBLEx?
Most massage therapy students study 4–8 weeks after completing their program before taking the MBLEx. Focus on muscle origins/insertions/actions, pathology contraindications, and ethics scenarios — these are the highest-weighted and most-failed content areas on the exam.
