How many questions are on the NREMT exam?
The NREMT EMT cognitive exam is computer-adaptive (CAT) and can range from 70 to 120 questions. You won't know exactly how many you answered — the exam stops when it's statistically determined you've passed or failed. Most candidates see 70–110 questions.
What is a passing score on the NREMT?
The NREMT uses a pass/fail model based on competency — there's no percentage score. The algorithm determines if your demonstrated ability consistently exceeds the minimum competency standard. You can retake up to 6 times within 2 years.
What topics are tested on the NREMT EMT exam?
The exam covers airway, respiration, and ventilation (~18%); cardiology and resuscitation (~20%); trauma (~14%); medical and obstetrics/gynecology (~30%); and EMS operations (~18%). VoltExam's EMT Prep is weighted to match these percentages.
