What certification do I need to become a phlebotomist?
Several national certifications are available: NHA CPT (Certified Phlebotomy Technician), ASCP PBT (Phlebotomy Technician), AMT RPT (Registered Phlebotomy Technician), and NCCT NCPT. California additionally requires a state license. Most employers accept any nationally accredited credential.
How many questions are on the phlebotomy certification exam?
The NHA CPT exam has 100 scored questions plus 20 unscored pretest items (120 total, 2 hours). The ASCP PBT has 80 questions (2 hours). Both require roughly 68–70% to pass. VoltExam's Phlebotomy Prep covers both certifications.
